Coja Village

Some say that in Coja everything is good, if not everything, then almost everything. We have good air, good water, good food, good people, and good landscapes. Poetically speaking, there's not much more one could ask for.

History of the Village

It is one of the oldest villages in Portugal, with a past full of stories and experiences, where some traces of the occupations are still visible Arabs and Romans, people who settled in the area in search of metals such as lead and alluvial gold. Their history and existence date back to times before their official recognition.

Approximately a century after the independence and birth of Portugal, Coja, obtained its first charter on September 12, 1260, granted by D. Egas Fafesbishop of Coimbra, which was renewed by D. Manuel I, during the reform of the charters.

Due to its vast history, surroundings, and community, experiencing this village will certainly be a unique experience!

Princess of Alva

Privileged location zone border, Coja was nicknamed by poets and painters as the “Princesa do Alva”Rich in natural beauty, one of which is its bathing area. It is a transit point for those wishing to experience the beauty of the mountainous region. Coja is located near the confluence of the ribeira da Mata with the Rio Alva. In terms of landscape, the dams of the Alva River stand out, with particular emphasis on the one next to the Campsite, which, due to its natural characteristics, allows the location of the bathing area.

The gateways to Serra do Açor

The village is known as "The Princess of Alva," perhaps because it sits on both banks of the Alva River and the duality that exists between the water and the village. It is also known as the gateway to the magnificent Serra do Açor, the largest Schist mountain range in the country, where the enchanted places of Mata da Margaraça and Fraga da Pena, the historic village of Piódão, the shale villages and other hidden treasures waiting to be found.
